My Top 5 Frames for 12x16” Nursery Prints
Above, 2 Ikea 16x20” Silverhöjden frames in gold-colour complement this stunning repurposed hutch to create a gorgeous nursery that’s fit for a princess.
You may wonder how we choose our frames for our Call Upon a Unicorn prints. After looking at many frames in many stores, and at a number of price points, I am delighted to share our list of top picks.
With the goal of showcasing 12x16” prints on our homepage, I quickly discovered IKEA frames were most suitable. It has the largest selection that meets all decor styles and their options don’t break the bank.
"For safety reasons, avoid frames that require glass"
Children’s rooms don’t require glass in framed prints, in fact, for safety reasons I prefer to avoid them. The plexiglass that IKEA frames come with is ideal. I also looked into custom framing but, as you might already know, it is very expensive in comparison and when artwork doesn’t require it, why bother. Especially, when I have several prints I want to frame and don’t want to be married to any one decor choice. Kids grow up fast and their interests and style preferences change with them. These frames that I have selected for our sets were all displayed in my own little boy’s room.
Shown here, a single 16x20” Hovsta frame from Ikea in "birch-effect” creates fresh fun vibes in a reading corner.
So, in my experience here are my top 5 frames for 12x16” nursery prints. Keep in mind they often come in different colours but because nurseries are typically pastel and all our Call Upon A Unicorn prints are just that these are the ones I feel pair perfectly.
My top 5 frames for 12x16 nursery prints
- 12x16” Fiskbo frame in white is a shallow lightweight frame that is very affordable and speaks of minimalism. I like this one paired with 2 or more prints to create a simple feature wall above a crib or bed.
- 12x16” Ribba frame in white is a great choice again when pairing with 2 or more prints but its depth adds a little more drama than the Fiskbo.
- 16x20” Ribba frame in white looks crisp and chic and adds scale with it’s thick 2” matting. Pairing two of these above a crib elevates the room and looks like you went to a little more trouble.
- 16x20” Hovsta frame in birch-effect is slimmer and naturally shows off a fresh Scandiboho vibe. Again, due to it’s size you only need 2 of these to create an accent wall but because the frames themselves are thinner and not as deep as the Ribba, they don’t look too heavy if you want to add more interest by doubling up and creating a gallery wall.
- 16x20” Silverhöjden in gold-colour adds sophistication and can look very charming in an eclectic room. The frame is not too wide so it still looks light and modern and just one of these really dresses up a room.
All of these, of course, can look great on their own, paired up, or grouped to build that special place in your child’s room whether leaning on a dresser or shelf or hanging on the wall to showcase your babe’s favourite art.
If you have frames you love using, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below. If you have any questions about my favourite frames please get in touch. I’d be delighted to answer your questions.
Happy framing!
